Analysis the cause of no show and suggesting the solution in dental hospital

Abstract

|
Objective: The aim of this case report was to analyze the causes of no show patients and to suggest its solutions in order to reduce phenomena in dental hospital. This study was conducted to improve the quality of dental care service in dental hospital in Seoul, Korea.
Method: The data were collected through telephone polls by using electric data in SNU dental hospital from February to October in 2009 including patient's general information and reasons of no show. Frequency analysis was used in determining the distribution.
Result: The mean number of a reserved patient appointment in a month was 1143. The highest mean score of no show rate was oral surgery (10.55%). The most common reasons for no show were ¡®not be able to contact the patient¡¯(33.4%). Other reasons were ¡®migrating to other hospital¡¯, ¡®prolonged waiting time¡¯ and ¡®long distance from home¡¯.
Conclusion: Effective appointment management could improve patient satisfaction and could increase hospital's benefits.
